Everyone who wishes to travel abroad now needs a passport regardless of age. Even a new born baby is required to have his or hers own passport and can no longer be added on to a parents. Booking a holiday can be expensive and if you then have to apply for passports for everyone, you can often add another few hundred pounds on top. This can be a lot to pay in a short time, so it is often advised to get one passport at a time to spread the cost out a bit prior to booking a holiday.
A child’s passport costs £46 or £55.75 if you wish to use the Post Office checking service. An adult passport costs 72.50 for a standard or 85.50 for a jumbo and an additional £9.75 to have the Post Office check. The prices remain the same regardless of it you are renewing or obtaining a new passport.
If you are wanting to travel soon and need a passport urgently then you can pay for a premium service which for one week processing costs £103 for a standard adult or £128 for a same day passport. You cannot apply for one of these if you are currently outside the UK.
